The SSD marketplace is growing at a mindblowing pace. Whether the high-end or entry-range, we get to see new brands and product line being introduced all the time. Today what we have in the studio is HP’s top-tier M.2 NVMe SSD that aims to split the cake with the high-end contenders. Introducing the HP FX900 Pro family, the high-end PCIe 4.0 SSD with blazing fast speeds.

The HP FX900 Pro family supposedly come with 4 different capacities – 512GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB. Just that we don’t have the opportunity to learn more about the 4TB model as it is quite rare.
HP FX900 Pro
The HP FX900 Pro comes in a box printed with all the important details and feature highlights of the SSD.
HP’s collaboration with Acronis ensures that you could use a free copy of Acronis True Image OEM software as long as there’s a HP SSD present in the system. It is a nice touch as the most basic of the functions such as drive backup and cloning are essential for migrating your existing system without reformatting.

Be sure to look out for this yellow sticker – the distributor of HP SSDs in Malaysia is Fusion Tech Supply Sdn Bhd.

Inside the package is the SSD itself and a M.2 screw.

The first thing I noticed is the thicker heat spreader that comes with the SSD.

Unlike the usual stickers, the graphene heat spreader is thicker than you would expect. We will soon find out what kind of difference it makes.
Performance
We will put all the 3 storage capacities to the test and compare the speeds. Yes, we are expecting some variation in terms of performance and that is perfectly normal. As we always mentioned, having more NAND chips will perform better. Just think of a 4-lane expressway can accommodate more traffic than 2-lane roadways.
512GB

1TB

2TB

The drives perform within the advertised speeds. The 2TB model is spectacular when it comes to the performance consistency. That is all thanks to the added DRAM to the mix which differentiates the FX900 Pro from the FX700.
Temperature

The added performance also means increased temperature at load. The temperature sensor 1 reads at 79°C during stress load and that is quite near to the usual SSD thermal limit of 85°C. If you plan to use the drive for prolonged stress load, you might want to upgrade the SSD heatsink with something beefier. Otherwise, the graphene thermal pad will just be fine for idle and regular usage.

Take note that you might find HP SSD Official Store on Shopee that doesn’t share the same price as what we have listed here. As far as we know, they’re from a different distributorship.
Interested customers can purchase HP memory products from resellers like Topmaid Computers / Asashi Technology. As long as the product carries the yellow sticker, Fusion Tech Supply will honor the warranty.
Conclusion

The HP FX900 Pro is a strong contender for those who are looking for high-performance SSD with DRAM cache. It checks all the boxes that is required for a great drive – excellent performance even during sustained write workloads. Making it a great competition against many of the high-end PCIe Gen 4 drives on the market. Whether you’re planning to upgrade your PC or PS5’s storage, the FX900 Pro will get the job done without much hassle.
